Anthropic has finalized an agreement with SpaceXAI to leverage Colossus 1, an advanced AI supercomputer infrastructure, providing the company behind Claude with substantial computational resources.
SpaceXAI, previously operating as xAI and creator of the Grok conversational AI, completed a merger with SpaceX during the current year. Elon Musk oversees the unified entity while simultaneously managing Tesla.
The arrangement grants Anthropic access to upwards of 220,000 Nvidia graphics processing units along with more than 300 megawatts of fresh capacity scheduled to become available within the next 30 days.
Anthropic intends to deploy these enhanced resources to expand service capabilities for Claude paying customers. Users on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscription tiers will experience doubled five-hour rate limits for Claude Code.
Additionally, the organization is eliminating peak-time limit reductions previously applied to Claude Code for Pro and Max tier subscribers. Application programming interface limits for Opus model variants will similarly expand.
According to Wells Fargo analysis, this partnership positions Anthropic for potential revenue acceleration. The financial institution’s research team highlighted that Anthropic’s annualized revenue recently hit $44 billion, climbing from $30 billion recorded at April’s conclusion and $14 billion in February.
Explosive Expansion Led to Service Disruptions
Dario Amodei, serving as Anthropic’s chief executive, issued an apology earlier this week following widespread service interruptions affecting the company’s model offerings.
During remarks at Anthropic’s developer conference, Amodei disclosed that revenue expanded 80-fold throughout 2025’s opening quarter. He acknowledged the organization had prepared for merely 10-fold expansion.
“That is the reason we have had difficulties with compute,” Amodei said. He added that Anthropic is working to provide more capacity as quickly as possible.
The SpaceXAI arrangement additionally creates opportunities for potential future collaboration. Anthropic has indicated interest in partnering with SpaceX on developing space-based AI computing infrastructure capable of delivering multiple gigawatts of capacity.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Expansion Strategy
The SpaceXAI partnership represents just one component of Anthropic’s recent infrastructure expansion initiatives.
The organization executed an agreement with Amazon to obtain up to 5 gigawatts of computing capacity. Initial gigawatt availability is projected for late 2026.
Anthropic has additionally established arrangements with Google and Broadcom for capacity scheduled to activate in 2027. A collaborative agreement with Microsoft and Nvidia ensures capacity allocation through Azure cloud services.
An investment partnership with Fluidstack remains active to support continued AI infrastructure development across the United States.
Among these various agreements, the Colossus 1 partnership with SpaceXAI delivers the most immediate benefits, with GPU resource access anticipated within the coming month.
