Sui’s blockchain token has experienced one of its most impressive weekly performances in recent months, propelled by institutional activity, network development updates, and positive technical analysis from prominent market observers.

On May 4, SUI was changing hands at approximately $0.94. Within seven days, the digital asset rallied to $1.41 by Sunday, representing nearly 50% appreciation. Market activity intensified dramatically, with trading volumes expanding from $213 million to more than $2.5 billion during this timeframe.
As of Monday, the token has experienced a modest correction, trading around the $1.31 mark.
Institutional Staking Creates Supply Constraint
A primary catalyst for the price movement was a significant staking disclosure from SUI Group Holdings, a publicly traded company on Nasdaq. The corporation announced it had committed its complete SUI holdings — exceeding 108.7 million tokens — valued at more than $143 million when executed. This amount accounts for approximately 2.7% of tokens currently in circulation.
Ryan McMillin, who serves as co-founder and Chief Investment Officer at Merkle Tree Capital, an Australian digital asset investment firm, characterized this development as a “meaningful supply squeeze” and identified it as the “clearest near-term trigger” driving the rally.
The stock of SUI Group Holdings itself gained momentum, appreciating 11% to reach $1.79 based on Yahoo Finance data.
McMillin noted that the Nasdaq connection positions SUI alongside BTC, ETH, and SOL regarding public company treasury holdings, “signaling growing institutional comfort” with the asset.
Fee-Free Stablecoin Transactions and Privacy Enhancements
During Consensus 2026 in Miami, Adeniyi Abiodun, who co-founded Mysten Labs and serves as Chief Product Officer, revealed intentions to introduce confidential transaction capabilities to the Sui blockchain within the current year. This functionality is designed to enable complimentary and private payment processing at scale, beginning with stablecoin movements.
The initiative encompasses zero-cost stablecoin transfers alongside privacy-protecting technology that Mysten Labs maintains will align with regulatory requirements. Abiodun indicated the capability would subsequently extend to equities, bonds, and tokenized real-world assets.
Paga Group, an African financial services provider, also disclosed at Consensus 2026 that it had formed a strategic alliance with Sui to develop blockchain-based international transfer solutions and stablecoin offerings, with initial focus on Nigeria.
Abiodun further confirmed that DeepBook Predict, Sui’s forecasting marketplace, was launching on testnet. Research from Bitget Wallet and Polymarket in March revealed prediction markets produced $25.7 billion in transaction volume that month.
Veteran Analyst Identifies Significant Bottom Formation
Experienced market analyst Peter Brandt published commentary on X on May 11, highlighting what he characterized as a “major bottom” pattern on SUI’s weekly price chart. He declared that “price will trend substantially higher from current levels.”
The bottom structure emerged following a sharp decline from SUI’s previous peaks near $5. Brandt’s assessment coincided with price recovery from support levels around $0.90 and a 20% single-day advance. Additional market commentators, including Ted Pillows and Crypto Tony, similarly identified the movement as a possible trend shift.
SUI futures debuted on the CME during this period, attracting considerable interest from the cryptocurrency trading community.
McMillin emphasized that sustained medium-term performance hinges on delivery — particularly the deployment of zero-fee transfer infrastructure, adoption metrics from the Paga partnership, and expansion of stablecoin transaction volumes.
