Shares of Advanced Micro Devices climbed approximately 5% Monday following the chipmaker’s announcement of a significantly expanded collaboration with Microsoft Azure.

Helios shipments to customers, including Microsoft, are scheduled to commence during the latter half of 2026.
The partnership extends beyond Helios. Azure is introducing two additional virtual machine series utilizing 6th Generation AMD EPYC Venice processors. Azure HDv2 will cater to agentic AI applications and data pipeline workflows, while Azure HXv2 targets semiconductor design computing demands.
Network infrastructure also receives attention in this expanded agreement. Microsoft and AMD are combining Azure Boost with AMD’s Pensando DPUs to enhance networking performance and operational efficiency throughout cloud infrastructure environments.
Direct Challenge to Nvidia’s Market Position
The Helios platform marks AMD’s most aggressive move yet against Nvidia in the data center AI marketplace. Despite Nvidia maintaining dominant market share in AI chip deployments, AMD is advancing aggressively with a comprehensive solution encompassing silicon hardware, networking capabilities, and software integration.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized customer flexibility in his statement. “We are expanding the Azure infrastructure portfolio with AMD Helios to give customers the performance, scale and choice they need to build and run the next generation of AI applications,” he said.
AMD CEO Lisa Su reinforced this sentiment, describing Microsoft’s deployment commitments as “an important milestone” for advancing next-generation AI infrastructure capabilities.
