Key Highlights
- Bloomberg reports that Apple intends to allow third-party AI platforms such as Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude to integrate with Siri.
- iOS 27 is anticipated to introduce this functionality, with an official preview expected at WWDC in June 2025.
- iPhone users will gain the ability to select their preferred AI service for each Siri query directly through the assistant interface.
- The tech giant may monetize this feature by collecting a percentage of subscriptions purchased via integrated third-party AI applications.
- Reports also suggest iOS 27 will include a dedicated Siri application and an “Ask Siri” interface button.
Apple appears ready to transform Siri into a more flexible platform by allowing rival AI services to work alongside its voice assistant, representing a significant departure from its traditional closed-ecosystem strategy.
Bloomberg’s latest report indicates this transformation will debut with iOS 27. The update would enable applications from competing AI providers — notably Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude — to connect seamlessly with Siri, giving users control over which service processes their requests.
The Cupertino-based company already maintains a partnership with OpenAI that enables ChatGPT functionality within Siri. Currently, when Siri transfers a task to ChatGPT, users receive a confirmation prompt before any data is transmitted. Apple previously hinted at expanding its AI partnerships — and these reports suggest that expansion is now materializing.
This broader integration strategy would effectively transform the iPhone into a more accessible AI ecosystem, empowering users to choose between multiple AI assistants instead of relying exclusively on a single provider.
Monetization Strategy
Apple has financial motivations beyond simply expanding user choice. According to reports, the company plans to collect a portion of subscription revenue generated through third-party AI applications that connect with Siri — mirroring its established App Store commission structure.
This positions Siri as a potential distribution channel for artificial intelligence services, with Apple positioned as an intermediary collecting transaction fees. The approach aligns with the company’s existing business model.
The necessary infrastructure to support these integrations is being built within Apple Intelligence, the company’s comprehensive AI framework that debuted last year. Third-party developers would create their applications to function within this established system.
June WWDC Announcement Anticipated
Apple is projected to unveil these capabilities during its Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled to take place from June 8 through June 12. The opening keynote presentation is set for June 8.
This annual event traditionally serves as Apple’s platform for revealing upcoming versions of iOS, macOS, and other operating systems to the developer community. iOS 27 is expected to dominate the agenda.
Bloomberg cautions that these plans remain subject to modification before the conference — meaning nothing becomes official until Apple presents it during the keynote address.
Beyond the Siri AI platform expansion, earlier reports this week also mentioned that iOS 27 may feature a standalone Siri application and a newly designed “Ask Siri” button.
Apple has not issued any statement regarding these reports at this time.
