At the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition in Paris this Monday, AeroVironment (AVAV) presented the TOM 50 RE. This compact uncrewed ground vehicle comes from Telerob, the company’s subsidiary specializing in robotic ground systems.
Shares of AVAV began Monday’s session at $170.58, a substantial decline from the 52-week peak of $417.86. The equity’s 200-day moving average stands at $234.65, while the 50-day average registers at $184.20.
Weighing under 10 kilograms—approximately 22 pounds—the TOM 50 RE fits conveniently into a standard backpack. A lone operator can handle deployment while managing payloads reaching five kilograms.
The tracked design enables the unit to navigate stairs, traverse rough terrain, and function within building interiors. Engineers designed it specifically for confined environments where human entry presents elevated risks.
The system supports four primary operational categories: reconnaissance combined with environmental mapping, explosive ordnance disposal operations, communications relay functionality, and assistance for larger robotic platforms.
Advanced SLAM Technology Provides Tactical Edge
A key technological feature is integrated SLAM—simultaneous localization and mapping. This capability allows the robot to generate digital maps of multi-level structures and subterranean locations independent of GPS.
This proves particularly valuable in urban warfare scenarios, where GPS reception often faces interference or deliberate jamming. The unit can mark significant locations during missions for subsequent review.
Four wide-angle cameras equipped with infrared technology deliver operators complete 360-degree visibility during daytime and nighttime operations. The platform additionally functions as a portable communications relay, maintaining connectivity for personnel operating inside structures or other areas lacking signal coverage.
Operators manage the system through AeroVironment’s AV_Halo platform on Tomahawk Grip controllers, or alternatively via Telerob’s proprietary Robo Command Control System. The adaptable payload architecture allows operators to exchange equipment based on mission requirements.
Wall Street Adopts Conservative Stance on AVAV Stock

Raymond James elevated AVAV from underperform to market perform during March, while Clear Street upgraded it to strong-buy in April. The prevailing consensus among 24 analysts currently indicates “Moderate Buy” with a mean price objective of $318.78.
Institutional stakeholders maintain significant control at 86.38%. ARK Investment Management expanded its AVAV holdings by 28.9% during Q3, currently controlling 400,457 shares valued at approximately $126 million.
