Pavel Durov, the visionary behind Telegram, has revealed through his Telegram channel that Toncoin—the primary digital asset of the TON blockchain ecosystem—will undergo a rebranding to GRAM. This nomenclature was initially featured in the network’s inaugural whitepaper before regulatory complications with U.S. authorities forced a change.
“We’re returning to our roots — and starting a new chapter,” Durov declared in his announcement. He indicated that the complete transformation would require approximately three weeks to finalize.
The underlying blockchain network will maintain its TON branding. The rebranding exclusively affects the token itself.
TON experienced a rally of more than 11% following the disclosure, based on TradingView analytics. At press time, the digital asset was exchanging hands around the $2.10 mark. Additionally, the token has climbed approximately 19% throughout the previous seven days and roughly 60% across the last thirty days.

Multi-Phase Strategic Roadmap
This rebranding effort isn’t an isolated action. Durov characterized it as the fourth phase within a comprehensive seven-stage blueprint he’s dubbed “TON Great Again.”

The inaugural phase involved a substantial network enhancement that accelerated TON’s performance tenfold, with block generation rates multiplying sixfold. In more recent developments, Durov disclosed that transaction costs have plummeted to virtually negligible levels.
He further announced that Telegram would supplant the TON Foundation as the primary organizational force steering the blockchain, positioning Telegram as the network’s predominant validator. This organizational restructuring was assigned a two-to-three week implementation window when initially unveiled last month.
Regulatory Background and SEC Settlement
The GRAM designation bears significant historical weight. Durov initially conceived the TON network before regulatory pressures compelled him to retreat following legal action initiated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC has subsequently withdrawn that litigation.
With a more receptive cryptocurrency policy environment currently established in the United States, Telegram has been progressively assuming a more prominent and active position within the TON ecosystem.
TON sustained its upward momentum on the announcement date, even as the wider cryptocurrency marketplace experienced downward pressure. Bitcoin dipped beneath the $71,000 threshold during the same trading session.
The token’s approximately 60% appreciation throughout the past month suggests a notable transformation in market perception surrounding the TON ecosystem in recent weeks.
