The United States Air Force has finalized a $72 million enterprise licensing arrangement with Salesforce, aiming to consolidate multiple disconnected solutions into one comprehensive platform.
Wednesday’s announcement falls within the framework of a substantially larger $5.6 billion indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity agreement that Salesforce obtained from the Department of Defense back in January. Leadership addressed this comprehensive contract during Salesforce’s fourth-quarter fiscal earnings presentation in February.
Shares of CRM declined 0.7% in early premarket activity after the announcement.
The massive $5.6B IDIQ framework encompasses both the U.S. Army and Air Force operations, featuring a five-year initial ordering period with provisions for an additional five-year extension. The contract supports the Pentagon’s extensive technology transformation initiative.
Through this new $72M enterprise license, the Department of the Air Force alongside the U.S. Space Force will leverage Salesforce’s Missionforce National Security division to transform their personnel management, logistics coordination, and operational data systems.
The unified platform will deliver military personnel a consolidated operational perspective, enhancing real-time situational intelligence and accelerating decision-making processes. Additionally, it promises customized support for service members and guardians throughout their entire career lifecycle, spanning recruitment through veteran services.
Regarding logistics capabilities, the agreement focuses on automated enterprise solutions featuring real-time operational transparency, procurement oversight, and predictive resource planning. The objective involves reducing operational complexity while minimizing separate contractual transactions — directly supporting Pentagon initiatives to streamline procurement procedures.
Agentforce AI Integration
A critical component of this arrangement involves artificial intelligence capabilities. Salesforce has confirmed that the Department of the Air Force now possesses access to Agentforce, the company’s framework for developing and implementing compliant AI agents.
The DAF is actively evaluating how these solutions can function as “force multipliers to automate complex workflows and support decision-making at the edge,” per Salesforce’s statement.
Kendall Collins, who serves as CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, noted the arrangement will “operationalise Missionforce across the DAF” while delivering “the digital foundation for an agentic enterprise and mission orchestration at scale.”
Pentagon’s AI Strategy
Enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities throughout the Department of Defense has emerged as a core objective for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who unveiled the department’s AI acceleration roadmap earlier this year.
Keith Hardiman, serving as deputy CIO for the DAF, indicated the enterprise license agreement supports the department’s requirement to “rapidly field modernised, secure, and interoperable data capabilities.”
He emphasized that utilizing enterprise-wide contracting mechanisms “accelerates procurement timelines” while “optimising resource allocation” for airmen and guardians executing dynamic missions.
The $72M enterprise licensing agreement operates within the IDIQ contractual framework that simultaneously assists the DAF in meeting Pentagon directives aimed at reducing contractual actions and achieving enhanced cost efficiencies.
